Risk Factors Of Developing Fibroids

Fibroids are non cancerous tumors developing from smooth muscle cells and fibrous connective tissue usually in the uterus. Research shows that more than 70 percent of women might develop fibroids in their lifetime although not everyone will be symptomatic or require treatment.
Factors that impact on fibroid development include:

1. Being from a certain race.

Despite that all women of reproductive age are at risk of developing fibroids, black women are at greater risk in comparison to other racial groups. Also black women develop fibroids at younger ages and they are more likely to have serious complications.

2. Inheritance of such gene.

If your mother or your close female relatives had fibroids in their lifetime, therefore you are at increased risk of developing them.

3. Other contributing factors may include:

Being obese; vitamin D deficiency; higher intake of red meat and lower intake in green vegetables, fruit Üand dairy products; and drinking alcohol, including beer, increase your risk of developing fibroid.
