FACTS ABOUT KIDNEY FAILURE, COMPLICATIONS AND TREATMENT

Facts About Kidney Failure, Complications and Treatment.

The pair of two bean-shaped organs located in the region of lower back is the kidneys, they are parts of the urinary system. These organs filters waste and toxins from your blood which is eliminated through urine. Failure of the kidneys begins when either of kidneys lose their ability to effectively filter the blood.

Several Factors that Interfere with kidney Health Activities.

Some acute and chronic diseases.
Exposure to polluted environmental conditions.
When bleeding is severe.
Kidney injury
Inadequate supply of blood to the kidneys.

Types of Kidney Failure

There two major types of kidney failure which include.

1. Acute kidney failure; It happens when your kidneys stop working suddenly.
2. Chronic kidney failure; occurs over a long period of time.

Acute prerenal kidney failure.

Caused by Insufficient blood flow to the kidneys. It becomes a challenge for the kidneys to filter waste from the blood when the is no sufficient supply of the blood to the kidneys. It's corrected by by ending the cause of insufficient blood flow.

Acute intrinsic kidney failure.

Acute intrinsic kidney failure mostly occurs can from direct injury to the kidneys, such as physical trauma impact.

Also toxin accumulation and lack of sufficient oxygen to the kidneys can cause Acute intrinsic kidney failure. Lack of oxygen supply can be caused by actions such as shock, obstruction of the renal blood vessels and severe bleeding beside other acts.

Chronic prerenal kidney failure.

When insufficient blood flowing to your kidneys occurs for a long time, the kidneys become shrinked and lose their function.

Chronic intrinsic kidney failure.
This is as a result of damage to the kidneys due to intrinsic kidney disease which comes from a direct kidney injury such as ischemia or severe loss of blood.

Chronic post-renal kidney failure.

Mostly occurs when there is long-term urinary tract blockage which prevents proper urination. Hence increasing pressure and finally kidney damage.
How do you know you are at Risk of Kidney failure
Kidney failure is noticed by several changes such as ;

1.Decreased urine amount

2. Swelling of some body parts such legs, feet and ankles as a result of excessive fluid retained.

3. Fatigue

4. Pain in the chest

5. Sudden shortness of breath

Causes of Kidney Failure

There are several combinations of kidney failure conditions. Most common causes are high blood pressure and diabetes.

Most people at risk usually have one or more of the following conditions.

Heart attack, heart disease, liver failure, dehydration, allergic reactions, severe infection, such as sepsis, High blood pressure and anti-inflammatory medications, these conditions initiate kidney failure by limiting blood supply to the kidneys.

Other conditions that may interfere with urination and possibly lead to kidney failure including; kidney stones, blood clots within your urinary tract and damage to the nerves around the bladder.

Treatment for Kidney Failure

There are diverse ways to get treatment options for kidney failure. However, the type of treatment depends on the cause of the failure and its advancement.

Kidney Dialysis

It's done using technological medical machine to filter the blood. The machine plays the role of the kidneys instead. While on dialysis, you may need to reduce intake of sodium and potassium.

The procedure does not cure the problem kidney failure, but it helps to extend the living period if you go for regular dialysis.

Kidney transplant

Kidney transplant is another option for the kidney failure treatment. While you have a transplanted kidney, it works as normal so you don't have to go for dialysis.
However, this process may be delayed while seeking for the donor with kidney which is compatible to your body. Transplant surgery may be unsuccessful or may not suit everyone despite being expensive.
